In an effort to keep Lewis and Clark one of the top championship layouts in the state, there has been interest to legitimately lengthen the course to help cope with the increased distance today’s golf balls travel by the pros. Hole #13, which usually plays downwind in the summer, has not played as the 2nd hardest hole at competitive events in recent years (e.g., the annual MAGA Open, the 2009 USGA State Team Event). So, through private donations, plans to add a new back tee box on the hole have been crafted and authorized by the board.
Work has begun on the new tee which should be ready to go by this summer’s Metropolitan Open event in July. The new distance from the back tee will make the hole play longer than 515 yards (from the back of the tee box).
Although few of our members will likely play from this tee box on a regular basis, this new addition may not only improve Lewis & Clark’s regional course ranking, but also improve the club’s ability in attracting major championship golf events in the future.
