For the first time in the tournament's history, a +1 net best ball score was enough to qualify for the 32 team field. Teams that participated in the "pre-qualifier" the week before needed a -3 score to make it into the field. Relatively cold, windy and damp conditions contributed to a tough scoring environment for the players.
